MAKING THE LIVES OF OUR MEMBERS AND STUDENTS BETTER!

I am the daughter of two school bus drivers who instilled in me the importance of getting a good public education. They told me that a good education was the door to opportunity.
What motivates me to seek election is the same thing that motivated me years ago when I first began this journey.
I think about all the good work our union does. I think about my parents and the fact that union membership was not an option for them at the time they were employed. I think about how their lives may have been different if they have been able to join a union.

No doubt their salaries would have been better and they wouldn't have had to live paycheck to paycheck. No doubt they would have had better health care and would not have had to spend the majority of their hard-earned salaries on prescription medications. No doubt, they would have been able to retire comfortably instead of me, their daughter, having to supplement their social security income so that they could live with dignity in their older age.

When I see the good that our union does to make our members' lives better, whether through our advocacy, social justice, or professional work, it motivates me to do what I do. I want to be part of making the lives of our members, and therefore the students in this country, better.
